The Dutch Government comes with an objective to stimulate innovation in general and the competitive position of Dutch Startups in particular. It is also the driving force behind the Startup Delta initiative (www.startupdelta.org), ‘Europe’s largest Startup ecosystem’. A promising initiative with former European Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes, in the lead and with support of Jim Stolze, Founder & Chairman of TEDx Amsterdam.

 

The WBSO

One of the programmes to support innovative companies is called the “WBSO subsidy”, representing a €M794 budget for 2015(*). Companies contributing to technology driven innovation can apply, providing them with a tangible tax benefit if granted.

Each year, some 16.000 small and mid sized companies are granted WBSO subsidy for their R&D efforts(**). We can recommend fellow entrepreneurs to apply for the WBSO arrangement (www.rvo.nl/subsidies-regelingen/wbso-en-rda). But be prepared, because strict criteria should be met and it does not provide you with a blank check either.
